Saudi-based Knowledge Economic City (KEC) announced that it has awarded a US $62mn contract to Alfaneyah Electromechanical Company for the provision of construction, electromechanical and plumbing services for its KEC Hub project.

KEC explained that Phase One of the project includes a mall and a five-star hotel property – to be managed by Hilton Worldwide – as well as a residential tower. The tower will comprise luxury branded residential apartments with upscale residential units, benefiting from the services provided by the Hilton Hotel.

Located in the northern part of Knowledge City on King Abdulaziz Road, the KEC Hub project will boast a range of elements including recreation, shopping, residential and entertainment services within the mall and the main (Boulevard) in addition to cafes, restaurants, the heritage area and a public park.

As per the deal, Alfaneyah Electromechanical Company will develop the 384-key Hilton Hotel Tower and also the  66-storey branded residences within an 18-month period. In its first and second phases, the project will occupy an initial area of 186,000sqm, which includes a rental area of approximately 122,000sqm.

The rooftop captures Tuscany’s hot springs, providing a serene oasis with wellness amenities and panoramic urban views. From an infinity pool and cascading jacuzzis to an outdoor cinema and zen garden-style yoga deck, this space redefines relaxation. Features like a Baja shelf with in-water sunbeds and a sunbathing lounge, while a pizzeria and BBQ area make it the ultimate retreat for residents, it added.

The residences plans to reflect British and European quality standards, with interiors by LUD Studios. Ohana Development has partnered with Jacob & Co to unveil Jacob & Co. Beachfront Living by Ohana. The development is set to redefine beachfront living in Abu Dhabi, offering residents direct beach access, sea views and a resort-style experience.

Sweid & Sweid has awarded the construction contract for Sweid One, its US $198.7mn Grade-A office development in Jumeirah Lakes Towers (JLT), to Dutco Construction. As a contractor known for projects such as the Dubai Mall, Box Park and Marina Heights Tower, Dutco Construction has extensive expertise in delivering iconic projects, said a statement.

This collaboration continues a long-standing relationship between Sweid & Sweid and Dutco Construction, who have previously worked together on the Visa Headquarters building in Dubai Internet City.

“Sweid One is a pivotal project for us, designed to raise the bar for commercial office space within JLT. With Dutco Construction’s extensive track record of executing quality projects, we are confident that Sweid One will set a new standard in the area,” said Maher Sweid, Managing Partner of Sweid & Sweid.

Ireland has unveiled what’s billed as ‘Europe’s first’ 3D-printed concrete social housing project. The 3D concrete printed (3DCP) dwellings are in Grange Close, Dundalk, County Louth, Ireland. The 330m2 footprint includes three three-bedroom houses.

A public-private housing development consortium in Ireland consisting of Louth County Council, 3D-printing firm Harcourt Technologies, and materials provider Roadstone are said to have built the homes using a BOD2 3D Construction Printer from Cobod.

Designed to meet Eurocode 6 masonry standard, the boundaries of the housing development are composed of cavity walls: two 10cm-thick skins with a 150mm cavity in-between. Cobod, the Denmark-based 3D printer provider, said the walls were constructed without reinforcement and meets EN206, Eurocode 6 for un-reinforced masonry construction and ISO/ASTM standards.

The use of the 3DCP technology meant 35% faster construction and completion in just 132 days compared to conventional methods requiring more than 200 days, with the 3D printed superstructure completed in just 12 printing days,” claimed Cobod. 50% of the time savings came directly from 3D printing the wall system said the firm.

The printing firm added that remaining savings were achieved alongside what could be called a modular approach. Referring to ‘the precision of 3D construction printing’, Cobod said it was able to employ “seamless integration of other building components – such as partition walls, floor systems, and trusses – to already be considered during the planning and preparation phases, resulting in a more efficient construction process.”
