Following the launch of Starlight Park, AMWAJ Development has launched the Cube Residences, which will take shape in Mohammed bin Rashid City, District 11 in Dubai. The anticipated completion date for The Cube Residences is Q4 2026.

The new development spans a total land area of 15,070sqft and is to feature a creatively designed structure, ground floor, five residential floors, and a rooftop area that includes the pool. Dubai South, the single-urban master development focusing on aviation, logistics and real estate, and INDU Kishore Logistics, broke ground on a new facility that will be built at Dubai South’s Logistics District. This development marks a milestone in the company’s expansion plan, supporting to evolve into a multi-industry logistics leader.

The facility, spanning approximately 23,000sqm and will feature a storage capacity of 75,000 pallets, is scheduled for completion by Q3 2025. Designed to handle spare parts of all sizes, it will leverage data-driven automation to streamline processes, enabling rapid turnaround times and ensuring an efficient, optimised flow of shipments.

The Ministry of Electricity (MoE) and GE Vernova have announced the early completion and energisation of five critical substations across the country in less than two years. These substations are said to be part of a nationwide project that involves the energisation of 10 substations by Iraq’s MoE and GE Vernova to improve grid stability, network efficiency and enable the interconnection with the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan’s grid, providing more stable electricity for the people of Iraq.

The five new 132kV substations include Al Hindia, Al Sader, Al Qaim Saada, North Baqubah and Yaramja South. Both the North Baqubah and Yaramja South substations were delivered around six months ahead of schedule and were completed in August and September 2024. Construction and equipment installation works at the Rasafa Center substation have reached the final stages and will be energised soon, said a statement.

Four additional substations, North Najaf, North Karbala, North Diwaniya and Aredo, are scheduled for completion by summer of 2025.

Upon completion of the 10 substations, the Iraqi transmission system will be able to transmit an additional 2,200MVA of power, enabling improved transmission of the equivalent amount of electricity needed to power approximately 300,000 households or about one million people, it added.

“The strategic collaboration with reputable international companies, such as GE Vernova, supports the Ministry’s efforts to modernise the national electricity grid by enhancing generation and transmission efficiency, and providing a reliable technical map that provides flexibility in transferring loads and achieving stability in connecting to each other,” said Iraq’s Minister of Electricity, Ziad Ali Fadhil.

He added, ”In this context, these five substations that were completed and energised ahead of schedule represent a key milestone and an important addition to our efforts as they directly contribute to improving the stability of the grid in the surrounding areas, and are necessary to meet the growing demand for electricity. The completion of these complex projects ahead of schedule demonstrates the commitment of the Ministry of Electricity teams and their focus on achieving tangible results.”

Johan Bindele, Leader of GE Vernova’s Grid Systems Integration business added, “By executing these transformative electrification projects in partnership with the Ministry, our advanced substation solutions are not only stabilising the grid but also accelerating Iraq’s transition to a more reliable, affordable, and sustainable energy future.”

Rasheed Janabi, President of GE Vernova in Iraq noted, “As a dedicated, long-term player in the energy sector in Iraq, we are committed to meeting the growing energy needs of Iraq’s economy with the latest technologies and solutions across the energy value chain. Over the past decade, GE Vernova has built and energised a total of 30 substations, including five 400kV substations in Al Khairat, Nainawa, Mansouriya, Mosul East, Al Fao and Baghdad Northwest. In addition, four132 kV substations were completed in Dohuk province in Kurdistan region, further strengthening Iraq’s power infrastructure.

Marjan through its subsidiary RAK Central has signed an agreement with Pantheon Development, to acquire and develop a major project at their mixed-use destination in the northern emirate. The upcoming project will feature residential apartments, offices, and hotel apartments, and is expected to be completed by Q1 2029.

Fugro’s Board of Management has appointed Annabelle Vos as Group Director for the Middle East & India. Annabelle will take over responsibility for the region from 1 January 2025. Vos has been part of Fugro since 2016, when she joined as General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer.

Prior to joining Fugro, she worked in private practice for 11 years at De Brauw Blackstone Westbroek, a law firm in the Netherlands, in their M&A and corporate litigation practice groups. She is a member of the Supervisory Board of SIF Group N.V.

Mark Heine, CEO of Fugro noted, “Annabelle has been instrumental in driving Fugro’s growth and success, all while being a strong promoter of company values and showcasing great personal leadership. Her extensive international background and keen eye for business success and excellence make her the ideal leader to grow our Middle East & India operations.”

AD Ports Group has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Somali Ministry of Fisheries & Blue Economy to explore the possibility of jointly investing and developing the nation’s fisheries, ports, and maritime sectors.

The MoU will explore potential collaborations in integrating fish ports and processing plants, developing a maritime monitoring centre and stations, upgrading port infrastructure, building integrated fishing ports, and establishing a technical vocational training school, said a statement.

AD Ports Group brings experience in managing ports, economic cities, and free zones, in addition to providing integrated multi-modal logistics services in the UAE and globally. In collaboration with the Somali Ministry of Fisheries & Blue Economy, AD Ports Group will look for opportunities to develop the maritime and fisheries sectors and explore other potential projects.

In Africa, AD Ports Group recently secured concessions in the ports, maritime, and logistics sectors in Egypt, the Republic of Congo, Angola, and Tanzania. The United Arab Emirates is a long-time supporter of the people of Somalia, where agriculture makes up about two-thirds of economic output, the statement noted.

Vietnam-based Vingroup JSC and AD Ports Group have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to explore jointly developing and modernising ports, logistics and maritime infrastructure in Vietnam.

The MoU will investigate opportunities to collaborate in the joint development of integrated logistics ecosystems, seaport operations and shipyards to strengthen Vietnam’s logistics and manufacturing sectors, helping to position the country as an emerging trade hub in regional and global supply chains, AD Ports Group noted.

Under the terms of the MoU, Vingroup will assess which potential projects could be secured for development, where it could oversee construction, provide essential infrastructure, and engage with local partners.

AD Ports Group has agreed to manage the operational aspects of the projects, while connecting with international customers to position Vietnam as part of the global supply chain.

Together, Vingroup and AD Ports Group will work to arrange funding for projects, and toward potential partnership that could drive Vietnam’s logistics and manufacturing sectors, fostering trade efficiency, operational interconnectedness, and creating thousands of jobs to benefit the local economy.

A high-level Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) delegation has visited the Microsoft headquarters in Los Angeles to explore the transformative potential of artificial intelligence (AI) in enhancing workforce productivity and advancing smart infrastructure, DEWA has announced.

The delegation led by Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of DEWA, met Microsoft executives Rajmohan Rajagopalan, General Manager of M365 Copilot and Apps, and Ricardo Villalobos, Principal Director of Industry Software Engineering.

Discussions are said to have been focused on using Microsoft AI solutions to create an empowered, efficient, and smart workforce and exploring AI-driven smart building solutions – aligned with DEWA’s commitment to digital innovation and sustainable infrastructure.

Earlier this year, DEWA equipped its employees with the smart assistants Microsoft 365 Copilot and Microsoft Security Copilot, making it the first government entity in the UAE to adopt Microsoft’s technology.

This initiative forms part of DEWA’s strategy to enhance efficiency, productivity, and quality by integrating innovation and the latest disruptive technologies. DEWA is among the first utilities globally to adopt Microsoft’s Copilot.

The Microsoft team demonstrated the capabilities of Microsoft 365 Copilot, an advanced AI tool designed to boost workforce efficiency by automating and improving daily operations.
