Goodyear has introduced the GP-3E, a tyre designed for wheel loaders, articulated dump trucks and graders. The tyre features Goodyear’s specially formulated Type 6 compound which is said to have advanced abrasion resistance, reducing operators’ tyre costs, said the company.

Th manufacturer has also reduced the weight of the GP-3E compared to its predecessors, to help with efficiency while a new multiple steel belt carcass construction comes with enhanced cut and tread wear resistance.

Speaking on the announcement Goodyear’s Octavian Velcan, Managing Director OTR and Aviation EMEA said: “Reducing cost and maximising uptime are industry priorities. By introducing one versatile, efficient and durable range fitting the operational demands of a wider range of machines we are simplifying the choice, maximising efficiency and bringing innovations that enhance tyre versatility. The innovative lightweight design of the new GP-3E supports an optimised cost per hour which drives efficiency and promotes sustainability. But it also means low-vibration comfort for the drivers.”

At the 2022 Truck & Fleet Middle East Awards, Goodyear was shortlisted across several categories including the ‘Tyre Technology Provider of the Year’.

Another area which Goodyear has tackled is that of traction and flotation. From a tyre engineering perspective, traction delivers grip for forward motion, but needs to be balanced with flotation, which helps the machine keep on top of the surface without creating damage or becoming bogged down.

“The GP-3E tread pattern achieves high levels of traction with additional biting edges, dual centreline lugs and an increased lug count. At the same time, the tread is designed to support a high level of flotation by distributing weight evenly,” the company added.

Starting with size 26.5R25, the new GP-3E will be offered in a range of sizes in the coming months.

In May 2022, Caterpillar launched three new compact wheeled loaders, while in June, Hyundai expanded its heavy construction range with two articulated dump trucks.

Technology company Continental will add the NightViu lighting series to its product range for commercial and special vehicles in the off-highway sector. NightViu is being developed especially for applications in the construction machinery sector, to provide better visibility in the work area, and improve safety and efficiency on construction sites, the company said.

The work lights in the NightViu series are said to feature an efficient reflector lens design with six powerful LEDs and four cover lenses, and can cover a wide range of lighting requirements.

“Looking at the construction sector in its entirety and contributing to greater safety on the construction site with our solutions is an important goal for Continental,” said Georg Kliewer, Head of Special Vehicles in Continental’s Automotive Aftermarket business segment. “That’s why we’re delighted that our NightViu work lights significantly improve visibility in poorly lit, construction site scenarios.”

With approximately 100 lumens per watt, the LED lights are expected to provide enhanced lighting efficiency, protecting sensitive vehicle electronics and preventing short circuits caused by excessive power consumption. Luminous flux options range from 1500 and 2500 to 3500 lumens.

The light beams are said to cover a wide variety of lighting scenarios for the work area around the vehicle, from close-range to far-field illumination. The beams offer several lighting patterns, ranging from highly focused spotlight illumination to floodlighting and from a wide to an extremely wide illumination field.

Continental has also designed a unique housing concept that enables the three different luminous flux options and the four different light patterns to be freely combined without needing more than one housing design.

“In this way, the complexity of the NightViu series is kept in check, but we can still meet every conceivable requirement of our customers,” said Chris Kosmala who is responsible for lighting system development at Continental.

The NightViu Premium work lights will be available in the second half of 2022. They will also be supplemented in the following months by more usage options in the commercial vehicle sector, such as driving lights.

In March 2022, the latest findings by Off-Highway Research noted that global construction equipment sales hit new record in 2021. Site safety, which includes operator training has been a growing focus: in early June, CM Labs announced new software that is designed to accelerate skill development amongst operators of cranes and earthmoving machinery, while later in the month, the LEEA said it will be launching new online courses on lifting equipment in the next six months.

Al-Futtaim Group Real Estate has launched Al Badia Terraces, a new residential development in Dubai Festival City’s Al Badia district. The project is expected to be completed in 24 months and is to feature a complex of residential mid-rise towers with ‘ample indoor amenities’.

According to the master developer, the project will consist of 132 one-bedroom units, 193 two-bedroom units and 26 three-bedroom units. The design of the project is said to be inspired by the green landscapes in the surrounding district, and is named to bring its residents closer to nature, with four public roof gardens and four lush public lounges located at the podiums.

Abdallah Hageali, Group Director – Mixed Use at Al-Futtaim Group Real Estate said: “Al Badia Terraces is carefully designed to cater to Dubai’s growing demand for high-quality real estate, in vibrant destinations, at the heart of the city, and value prices. The development is in line with Al-Futtaim Group Real Estate’s aim to develop projects that support the growing real estate market whilst meeting diversified and rapidly fluctuating needs of residents and tenants.”

Designed to bring the community closer through seamless experiences, the project is close to Deira International School, Universal American School, Dubai Festival City Mall, Intercontinental DFC, Crowne Plaza, Holiday Inn, and Festival Tower that reside in the destination, the statement noted.

It also said that the project will nurture a local community spirit by bringing its residents closer to everything that Dubai Festival City has to offer.

Abdallah added, “With the increasing inflow of expatriates, Dubai’s growing population and the overall uptick in the economy post the recovery from the pandemic has led to the rise of interest in rental units. The project is perfect for young families, senior executives, business owners who seek to stay closer to their workplace, children’s school, international airports, sports and wellness activities such as gyms, playgrounds and their favorite retail outlets.”

Early in June 2022, Allsopp & Allsopp said that May 2022’s real estate sales volume and value in Dubai were the second highest on record. Later in the month, real estate brokerage Union Square House said a quarter of homebuyers in Dubai are on the hunt for living spaces that provide mental health benefits; DAMAC also revealed that North America is a key market going forward.
